This room is messy. I’m never in this room anymore. Which is too bad, because I love it. And this room won’t be my room in a couple weeks, which is weird.

I’m going to miss this room, even if I’m never in it anymore. But you do what you can, and you keep moving, and that’s how it goes. Here’s to my next room. Let’s hope I keep it cleaner than I did this one.

on the ~~(post)colony~~

I love feeling relieved! I have been very stressed for the last few months but now I feel very relaxed/stoked on life! I feel reluctant to proclaim my good fortune (feel like it reeks of hubris/boastfulness), but as of yesterday I officially have a house to live in for the summer and beyond!

Houses here all have names (I don’t know if that’s just a Reed thing or a greater Portland thing or maybe just a Thing that happens), and I’ve been telling people that our house will be called “The Colony”. Its real name is “The (post)Colony”, but that is the result of a compromise; I was squarely (and stubbornly) in the camp that wanted the name to not have “post-” in the title, thinking that “Colony” just packed more of a verbal punch, rolled off the tongue better, stuck better in the mind (also thought it didn’t communicate as much academic pretension). I have been telling people that the house is the Colony, and this is true; the name is fluid, mutable, customizable to the speaker’s desire. If you are uncomfortable with colonialism, then go with “post-“. If you’re a fun detached party monster who doesnt let history get in the way of living a good life, then the unmodified base is for you. The choice is yours.

I don’t know if it’s obvious but I’m really really excited about this house!
